TESCO BAG CHARGE FUND

The Friends of Hill Hook Local Nature Reserve

Four Oaks call out for votes to bag a share of Tesco bag charge fund

Hill Hook Local Nature Reserve is bidding to bag a big cash boost from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative in January 2017!

Tesco run the monthly funding scheme, which sees grants of £5,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to local outdoor community projects.

Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award. and this month shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.

Hill Hook Local Nature Reserve is one of the three groups on the local Tesco region’s shortlist.

Our project is to improve access for people of all abilities throughout the nature reserve.  We have an old boardwalk that is rotten and very slippery which has several steps along its length.  This needs to be replaced with a 50 metre, gently sloping boardwalk, made from recycled plastics, across an area of wet and swampy ground.

Martin Yates, Chair of the Friends Group said:  “We have identified the need to improve the boardwalk, replacing it with a long ramp will eliminate a number of obstacles and hazards facilitating better access for all, especially those who are less able. The £5,000 grant from Tesco Bags of Help would enable us to complete this project in the early spring of 2017!”

Voting is open in Tesco stores across Sutton Coldfield, Erdington and neighbouring areas from 2 January to 28 January 2017.

To vote, please collect a blue voting token at the Tesco store check-out whenever you make a purchase between 2nd January to 28th January 2017.

We are box No 3 ‘Replacement Boardwalk Project’ on the In-store voting unit.

Please vote for us to win the £5,000 top prize in-store to enable us to build a redesigned and improved long boardwalk in our nature reserve !
